Our community has lost a great educator and historian. I was privileged to work with Douglas on a number of special projects during his career at Dundee. He loved what he did and conveyed that to students with thought provoking and challenging assignments. And he was dedicated to telling the story of Dundee and Monroe County history. He will be remembered for his contributions.
Thank you,
Carol Koesel

Every student has a favorite teacher in High School. Mr Heinlen was mine. Math was by far my favorite subject. He taught me that math wasn't about numbers but was instead about problem solving and how to use your brain. He taught me to look at problems from every possible angle and I credit his teaching skills and the fact that he made his classes interesting with my later success in life. I will never forget his influence on my life.

Sad to hear of his passing. Mr Heinlen was the very best teacher I ever had. His passion to help others learn was amazing. I even remember going to the science Olympiad with him. The world has certainly lost a great man.

What a mark he left on the school and the town of Dundee. Such a knowledgeable man in all areas that always strived to learn more so he could pass his knowledge on. A man of such dedication. I remember him in class laying on top of the registers because he was so sick with pneumonia but did not want to miss a day of teaching. He will will be greatly missed but his legacy will leave on in this town.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Doug was a special person. He was a dear friend. I have many memories of great discussions with him at school. I also thank you all for welcoming me into your home for a meal ... or going out to dinner...and attending a play or two we enjoyed together. You are a special family and I send my heartfelt sympathy.
Love, Anne
