Obituary of Carl C. Clock

Carl C. (Sonny) Clock, 82 Passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Promedica Monroe Skilled Care and Rehabilitation Center. Carl was born July 26, 1935 in Dundee and was a 1954 graduate of Monroe High School. He spent most of his life in Dundee where he met his loving wife, June Spiecker. They were married in Monroe in 1957. As a youth, Carl spent his summers at his grandparents’, Frank and Margaret Spaulding, and Aunt Alice and Uncle Earl (Tiny) Spaulding’s home. He was employed for over 28 years as a shipping and receiving manager at the Sears and Roebuck store in downtown Monroe until closing. He remained close to the store’s manager and some employees for the rest of his life. Carl was drafted, serving in the US Army from October 1958 until October 1960. He was a member of the 11th Infantry 1st Battalion Group Company C spending time in Germany serving with Elvis Presley. He shared stories about washing vehicles at the motor pool with him. Carl and June settled in 1964 in their house near Azalia where they remained for the rest of his life. In early days, he coached a softball team in Milan, “The Milan Bar” and remained friends with many of his players after his coaching days were through. He had the honor of coaching many talented athletes – one of which even went on to play for the champion Steelers of the 70’s. Favorite times were spent at his cabin in St. Helen, travelling with family, and being with his grandsons. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and mall walking with his senior friends. He was a founding member of the Dundee Sportsmen Club. In later years, Carl’s passion became golfing with his grandsons, his buddies at Deme Acres, and especially hanging around with his best friend Fran Dean, He was a member of the Azalia United Methodist Church. Carl is preceded by his parents, Carl and Mildred (Spaulding) Clock of Monroe. Survivors include his wife June, son Kenneth (Kelly) Clock of Colon, Michigan, two grandsons Bryce and Brandon Clock of Howell, sisters Norita (Jim) Worrell of Saginaw and Sandra (John) Zorn of LaSalle, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, at Cover Funeral Home in Dundee. Funeral 12 Noon Thursday at the funeral home. Officiating Rev. Christopher Butson, pastor of the Azalia and London United Methodists Churchs'. Burial at Rice Cemetery in Milan Township with reception immediately following at the Azalia United Methodist Church. Memorials to American Cancer Society or to Azalia United Methodist Church.
