Obituary of Lyle D. Rigel

Lyle D. Rigel, age 80, of Dundee, Michigan passed away at home under the care of his family and hospice on Thursday, February 23, 2017. He was born in Dundee on September 16, 1936 the son of Serge and Alice (Moyer) Rigel. He married Marie Antoinette Plontz on January 6, 1957 at Metz, France. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last month. He graduated from Dundee High School in 1954. He joined the US Air Force Air Police from 1957-1963 serving as an Airman First Class. He valued spending time with his family and especially trips up north for hunting and morel hunting. He had an uncanny knack for spotting morels from far distances. He retired from the Ford Motor Company Monroe Plant as a quality control inspector. Lyle believed in giving back to his community through his involvement in military affairs. He is a life member of the Moore-Lenz-Wakefield Post 6462 VFW; Past member of the Dundee Recreation Commission: past member of the Ye Olde Hunt Club; current member of the Dundee Senior Citizens; member of the Harry W. Bamm American Legion Post 72; Monroe County 40et8 Voiture 1153; past long time member of the Dundee VFW Military Honor Guard; member of the Michigan Overseas Veterans; member of the US Air Force Military Drill Team of Europe. He is survived by his wife Marie Antoinette Rigel of Dundee; son Serge (Sandra) Rigel of Britton; daughter Vivian (John) Bartko of Dundee; grandsons Jason Rigel and Zachary Brososky; sister Janet Rutter of Dundee and Sharon (Ron) Lightfoot of Temperance, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dale and Wayne, sisters Carol Kuhn, and Ruth Schuler, baby brother David and grandson Bradley Raymond. Friends may call on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 from 2 - 7 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156) He will lie in state on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 10:30 AM until Mass at 11 AM at St. Gabriel Church, St. Irene Campus in Dundee. Military honors by the Dundee Military Veterans Group follow’s the Mass at the church. Cremation will follow services with inurnment later at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee.
