Obituary of Judith Ann Labun
Judith Ann Labun, age 74, of Dundee, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015 under the care of hospice and her family at Providence Park Hospital in Novi. Judy was born at Five Points in Dundee Township on August 3, 1941 the daughter of Frank and Clara (Trutt) Labun Sr. She graduated from Dundee High School in the Class of 1959. After graduation she worked for Edwards Brothers in Ann Arbor for 15 years. In 1968 she opened the Village Gift and Flower Shop and later the Dundee Herb Depot, both businesses in the historical downtown. Judy always believed in volunteering and promoting the Village of Dundee. She was a charter member of the Old Mill Museum; was a member of the Dundee Business and Professionals; the DABA. Any time there was a function at the Old Mill she was there working. A Monroe resident for 35 years before moving to Lake George, Michigan she spent her winters in Brooksville, Florida after the passing of her partner, Rose Colette Gorrell November 21, 2009. They were together for 30 years. She was outgoing and caring, never met a stranger she didn’t get to now. She leaves behind an extensive network of longtime friends in Dundee, Lake George and many places in Florida. She is survived by sisters Elizabeth Norman of Dundee and Janette Valentine of Ann Arbor; many nieces and nephews; many wonderful and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, partner Rose, brothers Frank Labun Jr and Donald Labun and sisters Marie Peters and Luella (Jane) Keinath. Friends may call on Friday from 2 – 8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156) Her Celebration of Life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee. A memorial luncheon at the Old Mill will follow the cemetery committal service. Flowers had always been an important part of Judy’s life – her business, her garden, as well as the teaching of others.
