Obituary of Maynard J. Miller

Maynard J. Miller, age 91 of Dundee and formerly of Oscoda passed away Monday, September 21, 2015 at Parkcliff in Toledo. He was born in Ypsilanti on September 7, 1924 the son of Henry and Eva (Schultz) Miller. He served his country by joining the US Navy. His enlistment was from 8 Oct 41 until 27 Oct 45 as a Chief Petty Officer. He also served in the US Naval Reserve until 1984. Maynard married June Mickelberg April 4, 1943 in Yuma, Arizona. She passed away March 17, 1980. He then married Mary Louise Hanson October 22, 1983 at. St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee. She passed away May 29, 2004. Maynard did many things in life including being a police officer on the old Dundee Village Police Department; Monroe County Sheriff Deputy; was a school bus driver; was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 211 in Dundee; member of Dundee Senior Citizens; member and Color Guard member of the Oscoda VFW Post 3735. He was a skilled trades pipe fitter at Tecumseh Fisher Body, retiring in 1985 after 21 years there. After retiring he enjoyed antiquing. Survivors include son’s Terry (Janice) Miller of Maumee, Ohio, Billy (Cheryl) Miller of Evergreen, Colorado, and John Miller of Jackson; daughters Patty L. Miller of Montpelier, Ohio and Christine (Mark) Herron of Petersburg; step daughter Michelle (Carl) Perkins of Adrian; grandchildren Steve (Heather) Miller, Shelbey (Carl) Carter, Ethan Miller, Karlie Herron and Ryan Herron; great-grandchildren William Monroe, Josephine Monroe and Amber Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, both his wives June and Mary and step son Bill Hanson. Friends may call on Thursday from 2 – 8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). Military funeral services with honors will be held at the funeral home Friday, September 25, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. Cremation will follow the service with later burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Dundee.
