Obituary of Shirley J. Symon

Shirley J. Symon, age 62 of Dundee, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at her home. She was born at Beyer Hospital in Ypsilanti on February 16, 1953 the daughter of Ira and Geraldine (Mason) Layton. She attended Milan Schools and was married to Michael F. Symon March 8, 1971 in Port Huron. Sadly he passed away on August 11, 2013. She also loved creating and teaching ceramics and co-owned a ceramics business with her husband. She loved spending time with family and friends and working on puzzles. Shirley’s survivors include son Donald of Dundee; daughter Cheri Stevens of Dundee; granddaughter Samantha Stevens; brother Ira Layton of Milan, step brother Keith Brooks of Milan, sisters Jayne Garcia of York, NC, Cynthia (Loren) Goodman of Romulus and step sister Kathy (Lannie) Edmonds of Milan. brother’s and sisters in law: Mark F. Symon of Kimball, Michigan; sisters Pamela S. (Del) Winchester of Port Huron, Jacqueline (Gene) Moore of Roscommon, and Patti (Kevin) Kilbourn of Port Huron. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Michael and daughter Cynthia Darlene Symon in 1997. Friends may call on Monday from 5 – 8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, September 22, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee. Memorials may be made to the family.
