Obituary of Alfred Dermanelian

Alfred (Al) Dermanelian, age 81, of Dundee passed away on Monday morning, September 22, 2014 at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital emergency room in Ann Arbor. He was born in Detroit, Michigan June 13, 1933 the son of Harry and Evelyn (Percha) Dermanelian. Al moved to Dundee as a teenager and graduated from Dundee High School in 1952. From 1953-55 he served in the US Army. He married Marilyn R. Harris February 16, 1953 at St. Irene Catholic Church in Dundee. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2003. He worked at the family bowling alley in Dundee until he and his wife bought it from his parents in 1955. He was a tool and die supervisor at the Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville Plant, retiring in 1987 after starting in 1963. He was a family man. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to hunt and fish, snowmobile, woodworking, and mechanics . They built their cabin in Hillman and moved north after retiring until coming back home to Dundee. In high school and in the army he was a talented baseball player. After retiring they camped and travelled to most of the United States including Alaska. Survivors include his wife Marilyn; son Ken (Gail) Dermanelian of Dundee; daughters Diane (Doug) Steinman of Dundee; Karen (William) Longnecker of New Port Richie, FL; Paula (Gary) Sievert of Dundee; brothers David (Christine) of Arizona and Dennis (Bonnie) of Adrian; sisters Lorraine (David) May of Sunrise, FL and Bonnie (Don) Brown of Belleville, MI; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Steven in 1992 and his parents. In accordance with his wishes cremation has been held. Friends and family may gather on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 4 PM until 8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home , 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). Friends and family may also gather on Friday, September 26, 2014 from 10 AM until Mass at 11 AM at. St. Gabriel Parish in Dundee (St. Irene Campus) Officiating will be Rev.
