We were saddened to hear about the passing of our friend, Gary. He was one of our first friends when we moved to Monroe area, thirty-five years ago. He was one of the nicest people I know, and will surely be missed. Rest in peace, Gary..

I truely will miss such a loving and wonderful man who seemed to perservere through just about anything. Even though Gary faced many trials, he accepted each challenge with a positive attitude and optomistic outlook. There was nothing that Gary couldn't do without his "better half," as Gary would say, by his side. Pat and Gary shared such a special bond and he would tell me constantly how blessed he was to have her in his life. I have no doubt that Gary will continue to guide his loved ones from heaven, just because that is the kind of person he was. He always put everyone else before himself. I love you Pat and I wish I could be there to give you strength and encouragement. My love and prayers are always with you!

Gary was always the kind 'big brother' when I was 5-7 years old. When playing basketball at the Dorothy Grade School on the 'dirt floor', Gary always picked me to be on his side. He was 7 years older and taller than everyone else, so he being the nice guy picked me to even it all out. I told him at a recent CFHS reunion that I remember him treating me like a brother. Good memories. Thank you Gary Church! Richard Pauley

I never heard a cross word spoken by Gary or about Gary. He was a few years ahead of me in high school and I always thought he was the epitome of cool. I also have fond memories of the many times I got to visit with him at our high school reunions. He will definitely be missed by many.

My first memory of Gary was in Sarita, (Dorothy, WV) while playing with Larry Middleton. We were in early grade school at the time. Gary was about 4 years older than us and we looked up to him in many ways. I can remember him playing basketball there on the grounds of Dorothy Grade School and playing baseball in lower Dorothy. My fondest memories of him were at the CFHS reunions. The strength and determination it took for him to make the trips there were an inspiration to me and others. One lunch outing with him stands out. We all went to a local restaurant for "slaw dogs." We had a great time. My sympathy and condolences go out to the family of this fine man and Dorothy friend.
