Obituary of Gary E. Gilbert

Gary E Gilbert, age 62 Born June 14, 1951 Lifelong resident of Dundee, MI Survived by 4 children and 13 grandchildren: Vanessa Pascoe (husband Brian, daughter Alyssa) of Pace, FL; Sarah Poore (husband John, daughter Sydney, son Haeden) of Tecumseh, MI; Nathan Gilbert (sons Ethan and Collin, daughter Kaleigh) of Dundee, MI; and Rachel Hober (husband Chad, sons Ryan, Caleb, Anthony, Andrew, Matthew and Jackson, daughter Kennedy) of Adrian, MI. Gary is the son of Eileen L Gilbert of Standish, MI (formerly of Dundee, MI) and the late O. Sidney Gilbert. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Sidney Gilbert of Dundee, MI; Paul Gilbert of Standish, MI and Robert Gilbert of Standish, MI and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister, Sylvia A Steele, and his brother Gordon R Gilbert. Gary graduated from Dundee High School in 1969. He married Kathy L. Poley in 1970. He began working at Dundee Cement Company (now Holcim US Inc) in August 13,1969 and was a dedicated employee for almost 45 years. Gary also served as a local and regional leader for the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. Gary enjoyed reading, playing cards and spending time surrounded by his family. He was passionate about sweets and if he ever offered you a piece of his Mother’s lemon meringue pie you were indeed lucky. He started ‘donut Sundays’ when his children were small and continued the practice for his grandchildren – delivering bakery donuts to each house most Sunday mornings. Gary was a devoted father, beloved Papa and loyal friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
