Obituary of Dominic Anthony Nowak

Dominic Anthony Nowak, age 89, of Dundee, formerly of Monroe, downriver and Alpena passed away at 8:15 A.M., Sunday morning, June 9, 2013 under the care of his family at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born at Alpena, Michigan the son of Joseph and Rose (Lapczynski) Nowak. He was raised in Alpena where he graduated from Alpena High School in 1940. He worked at the Alpena Hotel then joined the United States Navy and served as a Seaman First Class from his enlistment in 1943 until his discharge in 1946. He also worked at the Alpena Cement Plant, moved to Florida for a few years 1958-1961, then to the downriver area where he worked for Guardian Glass Company. He retired as a welder from the Ford Motor Company Woodhaven Plant after serving 20 years there, retiring in 1988. He married Margaret Exilda Livermore on Aug 25, 1951 at Alpena. She passed away on July 9, 1964. He then married Josephine B. Heit on Jan 8, , 1966. She passed away April 5, 2001. Dominic is survived by two daughters, Rose Marie (Robert) Foster of Tucson, Arizona and Mary L. (Al) Karacson of Dundee; stepdaughter Patricia Killgrove of Westland and stepson Robert Schwartz of Livonia; brother Louis (Shorty) Nowak of Alpena; grandchildren Cory Foster, Brooke Foster, Joshua Foster, Chad Foster, Jessica (Beejin) Mitteff and Christopher (Lindsey) Karacson; three step great-grandchildren. He was one of eight boys. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10 AM until services at 12 Noon at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). Officiating will be the Rev. Rick Jewett, pastor of the Deerfield Free Methodist Church. Interment with cemetery military services conducted by the Wyandotte VFW Post 1136 will follow at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Flat Rock.
