Obituary of Walter O. Brockway

Walter O. Brockway, age 83, a lifelong resident of Petersburg, Michigan passed away Tuesday morning, November 13, 2012 at the home of his daughter in Shelbyville, Michigan. He was born on the family farm in Summerfield Township August 1, 1929 the son of Emery and Nellie Mae (Hoffman) Brockway. He married Esther Mae Hatt September 9, 1950. She passed away January 24, 1983 at their home. Walter retired in 1985 as a hi-lo operator at the Ford Motor Company Ypsilanti Plant. He served the Ford Motor Company for 32 years. He was an active member of the Deerfield Free Methodist Church; was active in Boy Scouting in Petersburg ; was a member of the VFW Dad’s Post. He had a lifelong love of horses and and spent a lot of time tinkering after his retirement. Prior to working at Ford’s he worked at the Willy’s Plant in Toledo. Survivors include a son John (Connie) Brockway of Allegan, Michigan; daughters Helen (Cecil) Shelden of Dundee; Sally O’Mara of Brownstown Township; and Kathleen (Wesley) LaFountain of Shelbyville; brother Ellsworth (Flossie) Brockway of Petersburg; sister Catheryne Good of Petersburg; Grandchildren Lee and Pam Brockway,of Franklinton, NC, Belinda Brockway of Monroe, Mary Monhollen of Toledo, Anita and Jeff Collins of Allegan, Michigan, Fred and Rachel Brockway of Allegan, John Duffield Jr of Shelbyville, Samantha and Allen Bixler of Shelbyville, Ben, Jason, and Amanda Shelden of Dundee; great-grandchildren Emily and Mitchell Brockway of Franklinton, NC, Dustin and Brianna Roberts of Monroe, Jeffrey and Skylar Collins of Allegan and Noah and Nathan Monhollen of Toledo. He was preceded in death by his wife Esther May, son Gary Lee Brockway, daughter Audra Jean, son in law John Duffield and son in law Robert O’Mara, brothers Charles and James and sisters Helen Watters, Virginia Watters and Dorothy Krutz. Friends may call Thursday from 2-8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 AM, Friday, November 16, 2012. Officiating will be Rev. Tick Jewett, pastor of the Deerfield Free Methodist Church. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Petersburg.
