Obituary of Virginia L. Mominee

Virginia L. Mominee, 94 years young, one of Dundee’s most beloved teachers and Citizen of the Year in Dundee in 1979 passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 following a long illness. Mrs. Mominee was born in Dundee January 4, 1918 the daughter of Stanley F. and Leota F. (Borgert) Collins. She married Paul H. Mominee June 19, 1946 at the Dundee Congregational Church. Officiating was Rev. Prestige. Paul passed away on March 31, 1988. She graduated from Dundee High School in 1935 and from Eastern Michigan University in 1939. She also did graduate work at the University of Michigan. She had taught kindergarten and art in Fowlerville then came back to Dundee in 1945, retiring in 1979 after 36 ½ years. She also taught for six months in Milan. She joined the WAVES during World War II serving her country for a year and a half as a Spec 5. She was a member of the Dundee Congregational Church for many years which later became the First Presbyterian Church of Dundee and now is a member of the Dundee United Methodist Church. She was active in the church choir, couples club, women’s fellowship, and was a deacon before joining the Methodist Church. She is member of the County Retired Teachers, Michigan Retired Teachers and National Retired Teachers, the American Legion Auxilliary and the Dundee Senior Citizens. Virginia was preceded in death by her sister and friend, Marian (Clyde) Toburen and also an infant sister Hazel Mae Collins and a grandnephew Robert Humes Jr. She is survived by two nieces: LeeAnn (Bill) Gauss of Dundee and Nancy (Robert) Humes of Wadsworth, Ohio; great nieces and great nephews Leslie (Toni)VanDyke, Cindy Sprague, Richard (Jen)Humes, Heather Errante, Michael(Misty) VanDyke and Holly(Scott) Custer. Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 PM and Friday from 1-4 and 6-8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). She will lie in state on Saturday, July 21, 2012 from 10 AM until 11 AM Services at Dundee United Methodist Church. Officiating will be her niece Rev. Nancy Humes. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee with graveside military services conducted by the Dundee Veterans Memorial Group.
