Obituary of Marlene J. Betz

Marlene Joyce Betz, age 77 of Deerfield and formerly of Dundee passed away at 1:12 P.M., Friday, May 4, 2012 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born June 22, 1934 in Lyons, Ohio to Nelson and Armintha (Liechty) Haggard. She graduated from Adrian High School in 1952 and married Donald A. Betz November 17, 1951 in Angola, Indiana. Sadly Don passed away February 24, 1994. Marlene retired in 1992 from the General Telephone Company (GTE) after 25 years. She started at the Dundee office, moving to Ida, Tecumseh and finally the Adrian offices. She also worked at the Grapevine Restaurant as a hostess after retiring, at Complete Plumbing in Dundee and also worked at Wheelock Pharmacy in Adrian. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee. All the kids called her ‘Grammy”. She also loved travels and camping, the Detroit Tigers and Michigan football, bunko and was secretary and active member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Moore-Lenz-Wakefield VFW Post 6462 in Dundee. Survivors include her son Donald B. (Buck) (Karen) Betz of Lambertville, a daughter Mrs. Richard (Joanna) (Jody) Miller of Deerfield; grandchildren Christy (Jeff) Barnes, Niki Betz, Crystal (Andrew) Mawer, Jessica Domas and Marie (Jeremy) Revard; great-grandchildren Breanna Barnes, Jake Barnes, Andy Barnes, Elizabeth Mawer and Graeden Revard; brothers Arlen (Anita) Haggard of Adrian and Bud (Brenda) Haggard of Tecumseh; brother in law Ronald West of Milan. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Donald and sister Shirley West. Friends may call Sunday from 4 – 8 P.M. and on Monday from 1 – 8 P.M. at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156) She will lie in state from 12 noon until 1:00 PM. services on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee. Co-officiating will be Rev. Mike Konow, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church and her nephew Rev. Robert Loar, pastor of the Solid Rock Church in Blissfield. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee. The Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a service at 7:00 P.M., Monday at the funeral home.
