Obituary of James V. Seegert
James V. Seegert, age 80, of Petersburg, MI died at 6;08 A.M., Friday, February 17, 2012 at Toledo Hospital. He was born in Toledo on Oct. 25, 1931 to Andrew and Iona (Pieplow) Seegert and married Shirley Mae Lamarand June 28, 1952. Sadly she passed away Aug. 29, 2006. They enjoyed camping and travelling being members of Travel Trailers Clubs of the Midwest Camping Club, River Raisin Club, and Coast to Coast, and were members of Light of Christ Catholic Church. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, children and grandchildren and loved his many cats. He retired from Jeep in Toledo in 1990 after 40 years as a millwright. He was active in Summerfield Township government for many years serving as supervisor and currently as a trustee. He graduated from Macomber High School in 1949, completed his 4 year millwright apprenticeship and served in the US Navy as a MEG4 (Ship Fitter- Metal)He enlisted April 8, 1955 and completed his reserves February 5, 1959. He is past secretary of Local 12, UAW of Toledo and was going to be named millwright of the year this year in 2012. He is also a former member of Monroe County Commission on Aging Agency 1-B. Survivors include three sons and their wives all of Petersburg: Steve and Deb, Bill and Dar, Jim and Diane; 8 grandchildren: Crissy and Steve Cook, Sandy and Laurel Seegert , Jimi and Tara Seegert, Jacob and Justine Seegert, Stephanie and Mike Kastel, Sarah Seegert, Matthew Seegert and Ryan Seegert; one great-grandchild Ariya Cook and one on the way, Luke Kastel; a sister Shirley Riley, and step sisters Sue (Ron) Burke, Donna (George) Korn, Mary (Howard) Jones and Sharon (Mike) Grodi, step brothers Rudy (Barb) Komon, Bill (Nora) Komon. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and stepbrother Jerry Komon. Friends may call on Sunday from 1 – 9 PM at the Cover Funeral Home in Dundee (734-529-3156) Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Light of Christ (St. Alphonsus) Catholic Church in Deerfield on Monday, February 20, 2012. He will lie in state from 10:00 A.M. until the Mass at 11:00 A.M. Officiating will be Rev. Jack Loughran, pastor of the church. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Petersburg with military graveside services conducted by the Lynn C. Weeman American Legion Post 514 of which he was a member.
