Obituary of Erma E. Winkelman

Erma E. Winkelman, age 91, of Dundee, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Claire Bridge of Ann Arbor under her families care and that of hospice. She was born in Wauseon, Ohio August 16, 1919 to Joseph and Anna (Reichhardt) Steinbrecher. She married Vernon C. Winkelman on June 9, 1937 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1987. Sadly, Vern passed away August 7, 1993. Erma was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Women’s Sewing Group, sang in the church choir, helped with Vacation Bible School, was a quilter, and volunteered for Holiday Children’s Camp, Fairview of Monroe and the Williston Home of Mercy in Ohio. She was also confirmed as well as was married at St. John. She graduated from Petersburg High School in 1937 and was a dedicated and loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers and also played Bunko locally.. She had also worked for Marcelle’s Five and Dime in Petersburg and for 12 years at Garst Oil Co. in Petersburg. Her survivors include a daughter, Sharon (Bill) Cassell of Ypsilanti, son Thomas (Terry) Winkelman of Dundee; grandchildren Gary (Debbie) Hoover, Mike Hoover, Jeff Hoover, Steve Hoover, Tracy Winkelman, John (Angie) Parishio, Andrew Winkelman, Melissa (Jeff) Jennings, Tim Ellis, Patrick Ellis, Barb and Deerick Faulgout; great-grandchildren Ashley, Denny, Casandra, Levi, Zachary, Amanda, Jake, Nicholas, Ryan, Joshua, Joey, Kameron, Jeremy, Christian and Cassi; great-great-grandchildren Ryan Jr., Ashton, Deshawn and Caleb; sisters Isabelle Gordon of Adrian and Dorothy Mae (Orville) Garst of Petersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, three daughters Carla Ellis, Barbara Jean and Linda Lou, brothers Floyd, Lewis, Robert, and sister Helena Weich. Friends may call on Sunday from 1 – 9 P.M. at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156) She will lie in state on Monday, May 23, 2011 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. service at St. John Lutheran Church, 460 Riley Street in Dundee. Officiating will be Rev. Annette Griffin. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or St. Joseph Mercy Hospice.
