Obituary of Douglas K. Olsen
Rev. Douglas K. Olsen dedicated his life to serving others. He was an ordained United Methodist pastor who had served congregations in Detroit, Ferndale, Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor and finally as the pastor of the Dundee United Methodist Church until his retirement in 2015. The Olsen’s came to Dundee in 2008. Rev. Olsen was born in Ann Arbor, May 24, 1947, the son of Donald and Marie (DeBoer) Olsen. He attended Ann Arbor public schools and graduated from Ann Arbor High School. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a business administration degree and graduated with a Masters of Divinity degree from the Methodist Theological School in Ohio. He married the former Sandra J. Knight on September 9, 1972 in Hebronville, Massachusetts. He was a First Class Boy Scout, was active in the Ann Arbor District and the Detroit Annual Conference, was a member of the Conference Journal Committee for 30 plus years, was chair of the district building and church location committee for 25 plus years, a member of the District Board of Missions, was on the secretarial staff of the Detroit Annual Conference, and was the Executive Board secretary at the Dundee Senior Citizens Center. He was also a member of the Dundee VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service) where he served as chaplain. Rev. Olsen went to his heavenly home on July 15, 2018. He is survived by his wife Sandra, daughter Kristen Olsen of Dundee, son James Olsen of Belleville, sister Susan ( Douglas) Weber of Ann Arbor and sister-in-law Sally Olsen of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Fred. A Celebration of Rev. Olsen’s life will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 starting at 10:00 AM at the Dundee United Methodist Church. Friends may come to the church after 9:00 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Bradley Luck, pastor of the Dundee United Methodist Church. A funeral luncheon will be served immediately following the services in the church social hall. In accordance with Rev. Olsen’s wishes, cremation has been held with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery in Dundee. Arrangements were handled by the Cover Funeral Home in Dundee (734-529-3156) In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dundee United Methodist Church, Dundee Caring and Sharing or to the Dundee Senior Citizens Center.
