Obituary of Dennis Gregoire

Dennis William Gregoire was born in River Rouge, Michigan on February 28, 1943. He was the son of the late Rene J. and Lucy A. (Chenot) Gregoire. Dennis attended Our Lady of Lourdes graduating with the class of 1961. He then served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army National Guard obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. Dennis married the love of his life, the former Carol Rasbury on October 4, 1968 at Our Lady of Lourdes. For more than thirty-eight years, Dennis worked in supervisory positions for National Steel, Great Lakes Division retiring in 1999. He then worked in the pro shop and maintenance for Links of Lake Erie Golf Course. Dennis was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and their Men's Club, serving as Secretary, Vice President, and President. He was a Life Member of AMVETS Post 1942, selected Monroe Post AMVET of the year in 2011, and State of Michigan AMVET in 2012. Dennis enjoyed O gauge trains, golfing, hunting, and singing with a barbershop quartet. Dennis loved spending time with his family and always enjoyed attending his grandchildren's events. Dennis age 70 of Newport passed away at home on Friday, June 21, 2013. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife Carol on July 26, 2010 his passing was preceded by sisters: Marion Burns and Norma Szomolyai. To cherish his memory he leaves daughters: Wendy R. (Miguel) Vargas of Dundee, Leah R. (Michael) Prucka of Ann Arbor, and Erin R. Shrewsbury of Carleton; mother-in-law: Dorothy Raspbury of Riverview; grandchildren: Noah, Mya, and Laila Martin, Adam Prucka, Caleb, Renee, and Joelle Shrewsbury; step grandchildren: Gabriel and Riley Vargas; sisters-in-law: Nancy (Martin) Wright, Lisa Raspbury, and Janet (David) Jantosik; brothers-in-law: Ronald (Sharon) Raspbury and Gary (Sandy) LaFrambois; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm, Monday, June 24 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. A Scripture Service will take place at 6:30pm followed by Veteran's honors at 7:00pm presented by Monroe VFW Post 1138. He will lie in state from 9:00am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00am, Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2960 West Labo. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Patrick Men's Club.
