Obituary of Donald L. Wenburg

Donald (Don) Lee Wenburg August 5, 1949- April 7, 2016 Don was born in Cozad, Nebraska, August 5, 1949 the son of Harold and ReNelda (Boesch) Wenburg. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1967. Don married Sandra (Sandy) Ballmer on August 5, 1972. He passed away at Health First Cape Canaveral Hospital in Florida. At 19 he started his career with Monroe Auto Equipment/Tenneco, transferring to Monroe in 1989 as manager of purchasing. They then moved to Dundee. In 2004 he retired from Tenneco after 36 years with the company. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman and was lucky enough to spend his last days vacationing and fishing with family in Florida. He was a member of the Cozad Chamber of Commerce, President United Way, President of Jaycees and volunteered time to organizations, boards, his church and community. He was a man of strong faith and his Lord and church were very important to him. He was all about giving back. He was a member of Parkview United Methodist Church in Cozad, Dundee United Methodist Church and Dundee Senior Center. He was diagnosed at age 11 with juvenile diabetes. Being a brittle diabetic he suffered with this and many related health issues throughout his life but many never knew of his illnesses. He was a fighter, was always strong, and never gave up. Which was evident even until his last days. He loved nature and the outdoors, and was an avid race car fan and got to work his dream job as an official with ARCA after retiring. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded by his father Harold Wenburg, Jr. Survivors include his mother ReNelda Wenburg of Cozak, NE; wife Sandy of Dundee; children Ryan (Beth) Wenburg of Hartford, MI and Keri (Tracy) Secor of Petersburg; grandchildren Christian, Elijah, Anna, Isaiah Wenburg, Faith and Trace Secor; sister Carolyn (Doug) Smith of Cozad, NE and brother Jim (Rogene) Wenburg of Hastings, NE. Friends may call Thursday from 5 – 7 PM at the Cover Funeral Home in Dundee. He will lie in state Friday, April 15, 2016 from 10 AM until 11 AM service at Dundee United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Petersburg. Memorials may be made to the Dundee United Methodist Church, Dundee Senior Center or JDRF, (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
