Arnold "Arnie" John Meinhart was born in Temperance, Michigan on August 24, 1935. He was the son of the late Ernest Meinhart and the late Etta (Libbenf) Meinhart. Arnie was a graduate of Monroe High School. He married the love of his life, the former Shirley Schwartz at St. Joseph Church in Erie on April 20, 1963. From this union would come the birth of two children. Arnie was a talented and dedicated Heavy Equipment Operator for the Monroe County Road Commission. He could run a road grader as good as anyone. Arnie's employment would span more than forty-six years before his retirement in 2000. Arnie was a very quiet and simple man. He enjoyed watching television, whether it was an old Western movies or one of his new favorites the "Big Bang Theory". Arnie enjoyed the outdoors and he was an avid hunter and fisher. He was also very talented in the yard as well and would raise tulips each and every spring. Arnold "Arnie" John Meinhart, age 77 of Temperance passed away on, Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by several brothers and sisters. To cherish his memory, he leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years: Shirley Meinhart of Temperance; a daughter: Kellie (Daniel) Smith of Temperance; a son: Arnold Meinhart Jr. of Ida; a brother: Harry "James" (Rosemary) Meinhart of Monroe; a sister: Roseanne Hunt of Ida; a grandson: Alan Meinhart of Temperance; a granddaughter: Holly Self of Monroe; three great grandchildren: Lily Self, Hazel Self, and Noah Lyke; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may gather from 11:00am until 12:00pm, on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 9156 Summit Street in Erie (734) 848-5185. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 12:00pm also at Merkle's with the Reverend Lewis Carlson pastor of the church officiating. Cremation rites will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for those who desire are suggested to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
