Obituary of Russell LeRoy Spaulding

Russell L. (Cappy) Spaulding, age 79, a lifetime resident of Dundee, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born at the family home on Dixon Road in Dundee Township, January 24, 1936, the son of Russell L. and Pearl (Stahl) Spaulding Jr. He graduated from Dundee High School in 1954. After graduating from high school, Cappy went to work at Tecumseh Products. He entered the United States Army in 1962 getting his honorable discharge in 1964. He also served 2 years in the US Army Reserves. He went back to Tecumseh Products working over 20 years and later went to work for the Ford Motor Company, Ypsilanti Plant. He also went to electrical school in Toledo for 2 years. For over 50 years he owned and operated Russell Spaulding & Sons Roofing Company of Dundee. He is a long time member of the Dundee Kingdom Hall, Jehovah’s Witnesses. Cap enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He played football in high school and liked following the Detroit Tigers. Survivors include his children: Steven (Jamie) Spaulding of Adrian, Mark (Gail) Spaulding of Ida, Sherryl (Brian) Ost of Dundee and Michelle (Josh) Maier of Maybee; grandchildren Jason , April, Michael and Steven, all Spaulding’s, August (Christine) Ost and Lisa (Merrill) Hunt, Cassidy, Erin and Kate, all Maier’s; great-grandchildren Braydon, Allison and Colin, all Ost’s and Merrill Hunt; sisters Mary (Roy) Tennyson and Marilyn (Ron) Charter both of Dundee, half sister’s Marla Phillips (Fred Martin) of Dundee and Marcia Letterman of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Pearl Spaulding, brothers David and John and half sister Marlene McCasling. Friends may call on Friday from 3 – 8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156/888-383-4176) Friends may also call on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 2 PM until memorial services at 3 PM at the funeral home.
