Obituary of Louis Mayhugh

Louis F. (Mickey) (Poppy) Mayhugh, age 74 of Monroe, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Heart Center of Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. He was born in Toledo, Ohio January 24, 1940 the son of Louis and Ethel (Hoyman) Mayhugh. He graduated from Ida High School in 1959. Mickey was married to Janet Weilnau on August 28, 1975 in Monroe. He was employed at Dundee Cement Company in Dundee for 26 years before retiring as a heavy equipment operator. After retiring they moved to Florida for ten years but came back to Monroe. He loved spending time with his family and visiting casino’s. He especially loved playing cards with his friends Don and Evelyn Cooley. Survivors include his wife Janet Mayhugh; stepdaughters Pamela Higgins of Monroe, Paula Short of Ypsilanti and Polly (Martin) Gunjak of Dundee; daughters Rexine Newhouse of Petersburg and Pamela Williams of Dundee; brother Terry Mayhugh of Toledo and sister Carol Mayhugh of Toledo; grandchildren Jessica Goins, Jeremy Short, Martin Gunjak and Dustin Gunjak, Zack and Noah Newhouse; great-grandchildren Madison, Mackenzie and Jayda. He was predeceased by his parents. Friends may call on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 1 to 5 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156 A closing farewell will be held at 5 PM. In accordance with his wishes cremation will follow the services. Memorials may be made to the Monroe County Humane Society.
