Obituary of Joseph Messina

Joseph Peter Messina was born in Highland Park Michigan to Delores & Joesph Sam Messina of Livonia. He was a devoted brother to two sisters- Dawn Barnes and Michelle Parm. "Cement" Joe loved the concrete business. He worked for his father pouring cement long before being a part of the ready-mix concrete industry. Joe worked in various fields of the concrete industry including: A ready mix concrete driver, a concrete technician, and also received a small business degree in 1985. He put his heart and soul into the concrete business for the last 39 years. The greatest of all his life accomplishments was his three children Shelby, Joe, and Loren. Josesph was also a loving grandfather who greatest joy was to make his grandchildren Dyllon, Gavin, Jenna, and Eryn smile. He also had an immense love for his nieces and nephews. Joe was a social butterfly who made friends with everyone he met. Whether you remember him as "Cement" Joe or "Shakey" Joe, he considered his friends family. He enjoyed being with people. Joe loved boating, waterskiing, fishing, sharing a drink... or 2 with family & friends and was an expert at playing the "Prize Claw" machine & Club Keno. He was loved many and will be missed by all. We love you Dad, Grandpa Joe, Brother, Uncle & Friend. Joseph "Shakey Joe" Peter Messina Jr., age 58, of Flat Rock passed away at 7:45 pm, Saturday, June 15th 2013. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by a step-daughter Stephanie Johnson; two brothers-in-law Bill Parm and Robert Barnes To cherish his memory he leaves a son: Joseph Sam Messina of Erie; two daughters: Shelby (Micah) Aniol of Milan, and Loren (Paul) Mather of Highland; two sisters: Michelle Parm and Dawn Barnes, both of Livonia; four grandchildren: Dyllon and Gavin Aniol and Jenna and Eryn Mather; two nieces: Kacie and Courtney; two nephews: Justin and Carson; and many other nieces and nephews. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 6:00pm Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734)384-5185. Memorial donations for those who desire are suggested to his children.
