Ronald Hudkins was born in Monroe, Michigan on October 29, 1933. He was the son of the late Franklin and Florence (Aldrich) Hudkins. Ron was a graduate of Monroe High School and served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army. Ron worked for thirty-seven and a half years at Ford Motor Company as a machine repairman. He married the former Elaine Rimmel on July 14, 1989 on Drummond Island. Ron was soft-spoken, accepting of others, and well-liked. Ron was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of Brest Bay Sportsmans' Club in Newport. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, collecting morel mushrooms, and feeding birds. He was fond of his Up North retreat at Drummond Island, and loved to entertain there. He loved growing his vegetable garden and sharing it with everyone. He also loved to host and furnish the steaks for the annual Humphrey Street reunion. Ron was a member of Monroe Eagles, Drummond Island Moose, and Monroe AMVET's. He enjoyed Keno and loved his poodle "Vegas". Ron, age 79, of Monroe passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Friday, June 7, 2013 at Medilodge under the care of Heartland Hospice. In addition to his parents, Ron's passing was preceded by brother-in-law: Robert "Bob" Cornoyer, sister: Lila (Don) Larson, brothers: Franklin "Corky" (Lori) Hudkins and George (Vi) Hudkins; son-in-law: Zachary McManaway; and great grandson: Jason M. Bomia III. To cherish his memory he leaves wife: Elaine of Monroe, seven children: Jean (Don Woodward) McManaway of Monroe, Janet (Ronnie) Parker of Tazewell, Dan (Jill) Hudkins of Newport, Donna (Karl) Rath of Monroe, Kimberly (Anthony) Ziegler of LaSalle, Regina (Gary) Mullins of Monroe, and Jason (Katie) Bomia Sr. of Monroe; a sister: Marge Cornoyer of Monroe; twenty-three grandchildren: Justin (Sara) McManaway, Kaycee (Michael) Fletcher, Fuson (Teresa), Jenny, and Roy Parker, Joshua and Miranda Hudkins, Macee and Taylor Sharpe, Christina, Michael, and Bradley Hudkins, Krysten, Katelyn, and Kaleb Rath, Joshua, Cody, Rachel, and Breeanna Ziegler, Jason Jr., Dylan, and Madelynn Bomia, and Autumn Root; and fourteen great grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Friends may gather from 2:00-5:00pm, Monday, June 10, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 5:00pm.
