Obituary of Richard Straub

Richard A. Straub, age 70, of Dundee, Michigan, passed away on Saturday April 16, 2011 at the Huntsville, Alabama Hospital while travelling back home to Michigan. Richard was born in Monroe on April 14, 1941 to Albert and Stephanie (Carnecki) Straub. He grew up on the family farm in London Township and moved to Dundee in 1966 when he got married. He married the former Alice Zorn February 26, 1966 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee. He graduated from Milan High school in 1959 and was a registered nurse graduating from the Mercy School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio in 1975. He was employed at the Ypsilanti State Hospital, Yorktown Center until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Ann Arbor and Monroe County Civil War Roundtable’s; he was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee and was the parish nurse for many years until stepping down in 2010; he enjoyed hunting and fishing; morel hunting up north; loved camping and the outdoors; his flowers and his yard and wood splitting. He always had a sparkle and twinkle in his eye when playing with and spending time with his grandchildren. His survivors include his wife Alice; sons Alex Straub (Toni Griggs) of Carleton, Jon (Kris) Straub of Milan, daughters Dawn (Eric) Poley and Anita (Mark) McCranie both of Milan; grandchildren Jessica Metti, Kenny Phelan, Samantha Yanakeff, Jade McCranie, Jacob Straub, Nicholas Straub and Ryan Poley; great-grandchildren Liam McMullen, Brody Metti, Lilly Yanakeff and Remy Yanakeff; honorary grandson Justin St. Bernard. He was preceded in death by a grandson Jarred Straub, his parents, grandparents and uncle Peter Carnecki. Friends may call Wednesday from 1 – 9 P.M. at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156) He will lie in state Thursday, April 21, 2011 from 10:00 A.M. until services at 11:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee. Officiating will be Rev. Annette Griffin. Burial will take place in London Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or to the God Works Soup Kitchen at St. John’s in Dundee.
