Mary Theresa Christensen was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 14, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Reinke and the late Sara Geauban (Reinke). Mary graduated from Western High School in Detroit. For fifteen years Mary was employed by United Paint in Southfield, Michigan as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1976. Mary moved to Monroe in 1977 and opened the Silver Fox Lounge, a restaurant which she owned until 1985. She was a simple, but elegant woman. Mary placed her family values high and her family always came first. She loved her cabin up north in Kalkaska, but loved it the most when her family joined her there. Mary enjoyed staying very active. She liked traveling the world, golfing, bowling, and playing cards. She was an active volunteer with the Mercy Memorial Hospital Guild and the Karmanos Cancer Society. In her quiet times, she was an avid reader and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. Mary was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monroe. Mary Theresa Christensen, age 88 of Monroe passed away at 6:00pm, Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Park Cliff Community in Toledo, Ohio. She had been under the care of Heartland Hospice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her loving husband: Burqe Christensen; two brothers: Joseph (Elizabeth) Reinke and Albert Reinke. To cherish her memory she leaves behind two sons: James Christensen of Monroe and Kenneth (Diane) Christensen of LaPeer; a sister: Elizabeth "Betty" Reinke of Bullhead, AZ; and nine grandchildren: Tom, Dane, Hannah, Nicholas, and Trevor Christensen, Sandy Calcagno, Jaclyn Voss, Tracey Marshall, and Jeff Marshall, and nine great grandchildren. She will lie in state from 9:00am until 10:00am, Monday, June 10, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 511 South Monroe Street. The Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:00am with Father Jim Smalarz pastor of the church officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park for burial. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, North Monroe (734) 384-5185. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to Heartland Hospice of Toledo.
