Obituary of Rose "Margie" Marie Townsend
Rose Marie Monday was born on March 1, 1931 in Monroe, Michigan. She was one of twelve children born from the union of her parents: the late Reverend Jordan R. Monday and the late Irene P. (Cochran) Monday. She received her spiritual nourishment by attending her father’s Baptist Church where he served as the Pastor.
Rose met the love of her life: Richard E. Townsend and they were married in 1952. They decided to start a family of their own and were blessed with two sons. Margie worked hard to tend to her family’s needs, and they were always well taken care of.
After her husbands unexpecting passing on June 16, 1979, Margie was devastated. She took great comfort in raising her great niece: LeeAnn whom she loved and cared for as if she were her own.
Always up for a good time, Margie enjoyed playing Bingo, Yahtzee and frequenting the thrift stores to see what bargains she could get. In her downtime, she relaxed by reading, completing word searches and watching her favorite soap operas. She had a competitive side to her and enjoyed playing baseball with her sister in her younger years and bowling on leagues throughout her life.
To know Margie, was to love her and she will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her.
Rose “Margie” Marie Townsend, age 88 of Monroe, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Medilodge of Monroe. Her passing is preceded by her husband: Richard E. Townsend; her son: Victor J. Townsend, ten siblings and her parents.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her son: James “Rick” (Judy) Townsend; her daughter in law: Robin Townsend; one brother: Von (Shirley) Monday; her grandchildren: Jordan Townsend, Margaret Townsend, Richard Townsend, Thomas Joseph Townsend, Brent Baunoch, Jerrod Baunoch, Aaron Ciotti, Gerald Welsey and Will (Tina) Welsey; her great grandchildren: Alya, Conrad and Isis and her caregiver and friend: Georgia. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
Family and friends may gather on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 11:00am until a Celebration of Her Life at 2:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 to be officiated by Pastor Roy Southerland from Monroe Missionary Baptist Church.
