Obituary of Donald Edward Stangis
Donnie was born on March 11th, 1959, in Wyandotte, Michigan. He was the son of the late Don and Helen (Gratz) Stangis. Donald attended Trenton Highschool, graduating with the class of 1977.
Donnie led a simple but heartfelt life. He was always the first to help when someone was in need. He took care of his parents the last eight years of his life before their passing. Along with checking in on his favorite widowed Aunt. He had one of the kindest hearts known. Before that his career was based in Plymouth, Michigan at PDC Glass in Shipping and Assembling. He was an avid BBQ Smoker. Known from Monroe County to Wayne County. He loved to golf, fish and hunt. He knew how to enjoy life.
Donald (Donnie) Edward Stangis, Sr. (CAVEMAN) passed away at 6:30am on April 25th, 2019 at the age of 60 after fighting a courageous battle from a massive stroke and heart attack in early March of this year. He was on the road to a miraculous recovery with the daily support of his loving family and friends, only to be struck down by another heart attack. He was preceded in death by his parents: Don and Helen Stangis; paternal-grandparents: Edward and Kate Stangis, maternal-grandparents: Edmund & Margaret Gratz; brother: Larry, brother-in-law: Daniel Greca, Sr.; and great niece; Angel Micholuk.
To cherish his memory, Donnie leaves his brother: Brian (Jenny) Stangis of the Philippines; sisters: Christine (Nick) Vince of Monroe, Kathleen Feaganes of Newport, Constance Greca of Carleton and Nancy (Mitchell) Allgood of Buda, Texas; twelve nieces and nephews: Angela (Chris) Joyner, Renee (Tom) Acs, RJ. Stangis, Ryan (Carrie)Vince, Dominic Vince (Trish), Anthony (Roxanne) Feaganes, Tracy Micholuk (Terry), Daniel T. Greca, Jr. (Sara), David Greca (Miranda), Derek Greca (Jessica Forbes), Spencer Allgood and Meagen Allgood; and twenty-three great-nieces and nephews: Isabella, Samuel, Joshua, Ariana, AJ, David, Jason, Jacob, Joshua, Haylie, Skyler, Madison, Kyle, Keeley, Anthony Jr., Logan, Daniel III, Zac, Mara, Camden, MacKenzie, Landon and Bella.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe (734) 384-5185. A memorial service will follow at 4:00pm with Father Robert A. Bauer, pastor of St. Mary Our Lady Queen of Families officiating.
