Obituary of Joseph Migliore

Joseph Michael Migliore was born in Detroit on March 2, 1920. He was the son of the late Vincent Migliore and Anna (Solomon) Migliore. Joseph attended Monroe Schools earning his honorary diploma in 2007. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably during World War II obtaining a rank of corporal. Recently, Joseph received twelve honorary medals from the United States government including a Bronze Star for being in combat under fire and the Purple Heart for being wounded while in New Guinea. Joe married the love of his life, the former Katherine Ingrassia on September 22, 1945 in Detroit. From this union would come the birth of four children. Joseph supported his family working as a truck driver and manager for his brother at Phillips Beverage retiring after twenty-five years of service. Joseph had a lifelong fascination with learning. He especially loved history and science. He prided himself on keeping up with current events and loved to talk politics. Joseph also enjoyed cooking and baking for others and family and friends loved his cookies. In his down time Joseph often could be found surfing the internet or indulging in his favorite, Peanut M&M's. Joseph, age 93 of Monroe, passed away at Mercy Memorial on December 12, 2013. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by his loving wife: Katherine in 2000; three brothers: Phillip Migliore, Casper Migliore and Frank Migliore; two sisters: Viola Tumbarello and Josephine Medrea: and a grandson; Todd Migliore. To cherish his memory, Joseph leaves a daughter: Anna (William) Burgess of Ida; three sons: Vincent "Jim" (Trudy) Migliore of Tipton, Michigan; Andrew (Lisa) Migliore and Philip (Terry) Migliore both of Monroe; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Friends may gather from 1:00-8:00pm on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service 2442 North Monroe, (734) 384-5185. Members of the Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138 will present honors at 6:45pm, followed by a Rosary Service at 7:00pm. Joseph will Lie-in-State from 9:30am until a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30am, Monday, December 16 at Saint Mary Parish, 127 North Monroe with Father David Burgard officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
