Obituary of Ella Freiny

Ella Elisabeth Lang was born in East Prussia, Germany on February 15, 1923. She was one of four children born from the union of the late Gottfried and Elisabeth (Albat) Lang. She attended school through the eighth grade in Germany.
On June 23, 1939 at the age of sixteen, Ella married Emil Freiny in Germany. They would immigrate to the United States in 1953 with their only child: Bernd making their home in Milwaukee until settling near family in Marshall, Michigan in 1955. Ella was a devoted wife and mother. She worked many years as a housekeeper for other families. Emil passed away on September 27, 1987. In 1989, Ella moved to Monroe making her home near her son.
Ella was a tremendous baker and cook. Although she didn't drive she was very active in her churches: Trinity in Monroe and Zion in Marshall. She was involved with Ladies Aide, LWML, TEAM, and Bible Studies. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, and was especially active in her grandchildren's lives often attending school functions.
Ella Elisabeth Freiny age 91 of Monroe passed away Wellspring Lutheran Services where she had resided the past five years. She had been under the care of Compassionate Care Hospice. In addition to her parents and her husband, her passing was preceded by a brother: Erich Lang and a sister: Anneliese Langer.
To cherish her memory she leaves her son: Bernd (Linda) Freiny of Monroe; granddaughter: Anneliese Freiny of Flat Rock; grandson: Erich (Melissa) Freiny of Newport; great grandson: Lukas Freiny; and a sister: Waltraut Unkart of Kaufbauch, Germany; and several nieces and nephews in Kaufbauch and Dresden, Germany , St. Charles, Illinois, and Marshall, Michigan.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 7:00pm Monday, September 15, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 7:00pm, also at Merkle's with Reverend Jeffrey Heimsoth pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Graveside services will be held at 12:00pm, Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall, Michigan Reverend Anthony R. Voltattorni pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Marshall will officiate.
