Obituary of Violet Mary Mona Labardee

 

 

Violet Mary Mona Labardee, age 95, of Erie, MI went home to her Heavenly Father on Monday, January 14, 2019.

Violet was born on March 30th, 1923 to Lawrence and Margaret (Friedman) Jacobs in Erie, MI. She married the love of her life, Carl J. Labardee, on June 8, 1940 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Erie. He preceded her in death on December 30, 2004 after 64 ½ years of wedded bliss.

She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, having been baptized and confirmed there as a child. During the war she worked at Monroe Auto Equipment in Monroe and the Bomber Plant in Ypsilanti.   She sold Avon Products for nineteen years and then worked for Hadley Arden Dress Shop in Monroe for nineteen years until her retirement. Having worked in the cosmetic and fashion industry for so many years, she always had to look her best, dress in style, and have her blonde hair perfectly coiffed.

She was a member and president of the Sanfreal School Reunion and of the Erie Friendship Club, a member of the Luna Pier Water Tower Park Senior Citizens, the St. Joseph’s Altar Society, and was active in the Luna Pier Bunco Club for over 40 years. She enjoyed crafts, loved working in her gardens and yard, visiting with family and friends, and traveling. She and Carl had spent 14 years wintering in Texas.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters:  Sharron (Jerry) Sancrant Smith, Darlene (George) Williams, and Pamela Garcia; seven grandchildren:  Jim (Sue) Sancrant, Bill Sancrant, Jill Sharp, Kristy Moore, Derek Williams, Nicole Williams and Jesucita (Jeff) Robinson; nine great grandchildren:  Kimberly, Amanda, Billy Marie, Chelsea, Eric, Miranda, Meghan (Joe), Trent, and London; three great-great grandchildren:  Lilyanna, Jaxon, and Elliette; one sister: Joyce Kiley; and many caring relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband:  Carl, her parents:  Lawrence & Margaret Jacobs; six brothers:  twins, Arthur and Oliver, Myron, Arthur, Howard, and Bob; two sisters:  Mona Rector and Nancy Jacobs; and grandson:  Scott Alan Sancrant.

Family and friends may gather on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Merkle Funeral Service, Erie; 9156 Summit Street (734) 848-5185 from 2:00pm until 7:00pm.   A Rosary service will take place at 4:00pm led by Cindy Middaugh.  Violet will lie in state on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 10:00am until 11:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2214 Manhattan Street in Erie.   Mass will follow at 11:00am with Father Mark Prill officiating.   Procession will follow to St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Erie for burial.

Memorial donations in her memory can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
