Cathern Louiavenia Meyers was born at home on April 17, 1942 in New Tazewell, Tennessee at the Whipping Post Farm. She was the tenth of eleven children born to Frank Meyers and Minnie (Minton) Meyers. Kathi as her friends called her attended Ford's Chapel School. She attended Claiborne County High School where she was a "good shot" and a forward on the basketball team. She graduated with the Class of 1960. Cathern moved to Monroe in 1962 to help her sister, Helen who was pregnant. She met Gerald Yensch at her sisters home one day. Gerald had come to see about a car that was for sale. Jerry picked her up in his black and white 57' Chevy for their first date outside the ice cream shop in Maybee. They went to the movies. Cathern married Jerry Yensch on June 1, 1963 in Maybee, Michigan. From this union came the birth of three sons: Rob, Scott, and Chris Yensch. She had three granddaughters: Grace Elizabeth, Abigail Kathleen, and Faith Yensch all of Dundee. They are all left to cherish her memory. She is also remembered by three siblings: Helen Irene West of Monroe, James William "Bill" Meyers and Joyce Ann (Johnny) Payne both of New Tazewell, TN. Cathern valued the time she spent with her family. When she was younger she had been very active and enjoyed playing softball and volleyball. She had been a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Monroe. Cathern L. Yensch passed away at 8:30pm, Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe. Her passing was preceded by her parents, her spouse: Jerry on March 24, 1987, her son Christopher in 1967, and eight siblings. Friends may gather from 1-8pm, Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 7:00pm with Father Kevin Russeau of Notre Dame officiating. Cremation will follow through Southern Michigan Services in Livonia.
