Obituary of Eleanor Mae Housman

Eleanor Mae Hagen was born in Petersburg on May 12, 1926. She was one of two children born from the union of Raymond Hagen and Minnie (Rohn) Hagen. She graduated with the Class of 1944 from Petersburg High School, and then continued her studies earning a two year certificate in business from Stautzenberger College. Eleanor married Calvin W. Housman on October 13, 1946 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Petersburg. First and foremost, Eleanor cared for the needs of her family as a homemaker. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she had participated in the choir for many years. For some-time she had been employed as a telephone operator, as much for the entertainment as for the pay. She worked as a payroll clerk for Purolator, and later served as the secretary to the elementary principal for Summerfield Schools. Eleanor loved to play bingo, golf, and was an avid bowler participating in several leagues in Deerfield and Dundee. She enjoyed gardening caring for the flowers in the yard. Many wonderful memories were made visiting the cabin on Vineyard Lake. She and Calvin had wintered many years in Florida. Eleanor Mae Housman, age 92, of Petersburg passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Cambria Assisted Living in Tecumseh. She had been under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. Her passing was preceded by her parents, her husband of nearly sixty-eight years: Calvin on August 11, 2014; her son Barton Housman in 2009; and a brother: Wardell Hagen. To cherish her memory she leaves two children: Bradford (Nancy) Housman of Brooklyn and Brenda (Denny) White of Dundee; a daughter-in-law: Fran Housman of Glen Arbor; six grandchildren: Barton (Ashley) Housman, Stacy Housman (Kirk Kambestad), Nita (Marc) Bonilla, Jennifer (Jason) Swinson, Troy (Cassandra) White, and Brian (Nicole) White; and six great grandchildren: Barton and Harrison Housman, Harper Bonilla, and Maximus, Logan, and Elizabeth Swinson.
