Shirley Owens

Obituary of Shirley Ann Owens

Shirley Ann Owens was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky. She was one of seven children born from the union of the late Hubert James Owens and the late Tempie Cordellia (Crutchfield) Owens. She graduated from Jefferson High School and later attended vocational training to become a medical assistant.

Shirley was blessed to have two children, James Michael Owens and Athena Clawson. She worked as a sales associate at Kay Jewelers for eight years before retiring for health reasons in 2003. Shirley was a devout Christian throughout her life.  She liked to go to bingo and attend events for both her children and grandchildren. Shirley also assisted at Jefferson Sodt Elementary School for several years as a playground aid, and enjoyed gardening until her health declined.

Shirley enjoyed cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially around the holidays. Shirley is remembered by her family as a great mom, several years of which she was a single mother. She was very strong-willed, but never gave up on her children. She was always there for them and her commitment to them will never be forgotten.
