Obituary of Cecil Lee Brooks

Cecil Lee Brooks was born on December 30, 1926 in Canutillo, Texas.   He was the son of the late Okla Brooks and the late Verna B. (Meyers) Brooks.  Cecil left high school early, enlisting on December 1, 1944 in the United States Navy.   He would serve his country proudly in the Pacific Theatre aboard the carrier, USS White Plains.   He obtained the rank of Seaman First Class, and was honorably discharged on July 15, 1946.  

Cecil married the love of his life, the former:  Elizabeth “Betty” Carolyn Fram on November 11, 1948 in Houston, Texas.   Cecil painstakingly attended night classes while supporting his family to earn his diploma.   For thirty-nine years, Cecil worked in the oil industry employed by Continental Emsco as a machinist.   He retired in 1989.   International Machinist and Aerospace Workers Local 12.

Cecil was a man of amazing knowledge and ingenuity.   He was extremely passionate about sailing being a member of Seabrook Sailing Club in Galveston Bay, and serving as Vice Commodore in 1955 when they became incorporated.      Over the years, Cecil received numerous racing trophies, sailed across the Atlantic, and had even raced with Betty and their son, Larry.   Cecil was a woodworker and was a thistle class boat dealer out of his garage.  

In 2004, Cecil and Betty moved from Texas to Dundee to be near their son.   The couple attended worship at the Petersburg United Methodist Church, and they became very active at the Dundee Area Senior Citizens Center.

Cecil, age 91, of Sylvania formerly of Dundee passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at Flower Hospital.  

To cherish his memory Cecil leaves his beloved wife:  Betty of Sylvania; son:  Larry (Nancy) Brooks of Petersburg; grandson:  Matthew (Amy) Brooks of Temperance; three grandchildren:  Joshua, Joel, and Ella; and three nieces:  Sheryl (Shawn) Smith, Karen Snow, and Laura (Tom) Mizerik all of Texas.

Friends may gather from 11:00am until 12:00pm on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734) 529-3156.   A Celebration of His Life will take place at 12:00pm co-officiated by his son, Reverend Larry T. Brooks and Pastor Jeff Rouff of the Dundee Assembly of God.   Members of the Dundee Veterans Memorial Honor Guard will present honors.  Private burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
