Obituary of Mary Leslie Richards

Mary Leslie Richards was born in Monroe, Michigan on December 21, 1964.   She was the daughter of the late Willie Richards and the late Katie Mae Dafney.   Mary attended Monroe High School and graduated with the Class of 1983.  

For twenty years, Mary was employed by the Monroe Kmart store.   She served as a cashier for many years.   In 2010, due to declining health she retired.   Even with this decline she kept a positive spin on life and was thankful for all that she had.   Mary loved to cook and entertain.   She was the family jokester and typically the loudest in the room, all of which made her the life of the party.   She wasn’t afraid of a little confrontation and she was well-known for her catch phrase, “Say it to my Face”.

Mary loved music and her interests were at the opposite ends of the spectrum enjoying the likes of Tu Pac and Gospel.   Mary loved her son Remi and he loved her too. She also enjoyed time spent with her sisters and family.     

Mary Leslie Richards, age 54, of Monroe passed away at ProMedica Toledo Hospital on Friday, October 5, 2018.   Her passing is preceded by her sister: Shirley Richards; her brother in law: Mark Miller, her father, her mother and her nephew Ronnell.  On Friday morning, her sister Barbara Richards also passed away.  

To cherish her memory, she leaves a son:  Remi E. Richards; four sisters:  Alice Richards, Gloria Richards, LeAnn Richards and Joyce Miller; one brother:  Willie A. Richards; and many extended family members and friends.

Friends may gather to commemorate the lives of Mary and Barbara Richards from 2:00pm until 4:00pm on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185.   A Homegoing Celebration of their lives will follow at 4:00pm also at Merkle’s with Pastor Jack Branham and Reverend Lito Mendez of Monroe Gospel Church officiating.
