Obituary of Gene Raymond Cheatham

Gene Raymond Cheatham of Monroe passed on Monday, August 13, 2018 at his home.

Friends may gather from 11:00am until a Memorial Service at 1:00pm on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe, 14567 South Dixie Highway (734)241-7070 with Pastor Al Overton officiating.

Gene was born on November 5, 1936 in Monroe, Michigan. He was the son of George H. and Clodis (Toles) Cheatham. He attended Lincoln High School and served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. Being a military man was one of his favorite achievements. He was very proud to have served his country.

Gene was a grounds maintenance worker at McDonald’s on North Dixie Highway for seventeen years until his retirement. He then went back to work at the Marion Place for fourteen years before his final retirement.

Surviving is a sister: Mildred Frances (Cheatham) Stringer of Monroe; and a host of loving relatives and wonderful friends.

He is preceded is death by his parents: George H. and Clodis (Toles) Cheatham; four sisters: Clodis Varnett, Cecilia Ann Moore, Mary E. Wood and Georgia C. Jones; five brothers: Frederick, Morris, William “Snooky”, George Arnett and Willie Clark Cheatham.
