Morris McMullen

Obituary of Morris David McMullen

Morris David McMullen “Morrie” was born in Monroe, Michigan on April 9, 1938.   He was the son of the late Everett McMullen and the late Viola (LaVigne) McMullen.

At just 18 years of age, on December 29, 1956, Morrie married the love of his life the former, Glenna Catherine Wilson in Monroe.   The couple would be blessed with the birth of four children.   Morrie was a dedicated family man, working hard providing for his wife and children.   For more than forty-seven years, Morrie was employed as a heavy equipment operator working for France Stone Company and Hansen Aggregates.  He retired in 2001.

In his earlier years Morrie loved sports. He played softball, enjoyed bowling, and throwing horseshoes.  Morrie had a great love for the outdoors and for many years he enjoyed camping, hunting, and birdwatching.  In his later years, he was happiest in his yard, and his pride and joy became his perfectly manicured lawn and flower beds.  Morrie would rise early each morning, spending from sun up to sun down caring for his lawn and flower gardens.  His yard was well-known in the neighborhood as the nicest yard on the block.  Morrie was also a jack of all trades, and gladly pitched in to help his family with any home projects need done.

He had a passion for tinkering in his garage, working on old cars, and woodworking.  Morrie especially enjoyed making bird houses, and would generously share the things he made with his family.  He loved spending time his children and grandchildren, and some of his biggest smiles came from playing with his great-grandchildren. He could spend hours watching old cowboy movies, and was a big fan of the Detroit Tigers.  Morrie had a great love for his wife’s cooking, and could hardly wait for dinner-time each day.

Morris David McMullen, age 80, of Monroe passed away at home on Friday, August 3, 2018.   In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by two children:  Charlotte Turner and David McMullen; two brothers:  James McMullen and Charles McMullen; five sisters:  Betty Bomia, Shirley McBee, Rosemary Wilson, Carolyn Clark, and Bertha Miller; and one great grandson:  Davion.
