Obituary of Raymond "Ray" Leon Ball

Raymond Leon Ball was born January 9, 1946 in Goldbug, Kentucky.  He was one of twelve born from the union of the late Theodore Ball and the late Helen Cleo (Rose) Ball.   He attended Airport Schools where he played basketball for the Jets.

Over the years, Raymond, worked for various employers to support his family.   He worked as a Crane Operator for McCloud Steel and had also been employed by Whitehead & Kale, and as a truck driver.   While living in Williamsburg, Kentucky he was the owner and operator of RB Gunshop. 

Raymond enjoyed collecting die cast cars and coins.   Although, he didn’t read them he had multiple magazine subscriptions and took every opportunity to enter the Publisher’s Clearing House drawings so he could hit it big.   Ray loved to socialize and he had a close-knit group of friends that he would often visit with at the local eating establishments.   As a young man he often liked to wrench on cars.

Raymond Leon “Ray” Ball, age 72, of Monroe, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Four Seasons Nursing Home in Westland, Michigan.  His passing in addition to his parents was preceded by his siblings:  Naomi, John, James, Jess, Enoch, Wilma, Theodore “Teddy”, and Donald Wayne. 

To cherish his memory, he leaves five children: Veronica Patrick of Trenton, Tammy (Steve) Murdock of Monroe, Tonia (Paul) Nolan of Dearborn Heights, Raymond Melton Ball of Williamsburg, and Katie (Jake) Cooley of Jacksonville, NC; one step daughter:  Ashley (Melton) Sulfridge; his twelve grandchildren: Donny, Scott, Josh, Mariah, Erica, Jarrett, Aubree, Jacqueline, Joshua, Elijah, Emma and Sierra; and eleven great grandchildren, including:  Lawson, Hayden, Alijoy, Jordan, Jimmy, Ellie, Lyric, Nate and Mike; two brothers:  Arnold Ball and Carl Ball; and one sister: Betty Fritz. 

Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 was entrusted with his Michigan arrangements.   Friends may gather from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Croley Funeral Home, 103 South Second Street in Williamsburg, Kentucky (606) 549-1234.   Funeral Services will follow at 1:00pm also at Croley’s.   Burial will take place at the Ball Family Cemetery.
