Edith Marie Hensley was born in Fonde, Kentucky on January 23, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Edward Hensley and the late Hazel (Walker) Hensley Anger. As a young girl, Edith’s family moved to Michigan where she attended Monroe High School.
On June 23, 1950 at just sixteen years of age, she married the love of her life, Duncan Sweat, in Monroe. The couple would be blessed with five children. For many years, Edith served as a homemaker, but in 1971 she would take employment as a Sales Clerk at the Kline’s Department Store. She would provide seventeen years of service before retiring in 1988.
Edith was a longtime member of Monroe Missionary Alliance Church and had most recently attended Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. Always the life of the party, she enjoyed dancing, and had a distinct, infectious laugh. She loved to fish and could clean walleye with the best of them.
