Obituary of Elizabeth Lily Casselring
Elizabeth Lily Zimmerman was born in Lacrosse, Indiana on November 13, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Ludwig Leopold “Louis” Zimmerman and the late Millie (Miller) Zimmerman. She lived in Indiana until moving to Philadelphia.
She married the late Walter George Casselring on July 6, 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The couple shared in the birth of four children. In 1967, Elizabeth took employment as a laborer with PACO, a paper corrugating company. Here she packaged medications and cosmetics for shipment retiring in 1983 to care for her ill husband who had suffered a stroke. Walter would pass away in March of 1986.
Elizabeth typically kept to herself and valued her quiet, private time at her home. For many years after her husband’s passing she made her home with her son, Bill, until his passing in 2006. She then moved to the John West Senior Housing in Mt. Ephraim, New Jersey in 2008. On May 31, 2017 she moved to Michigan to be cared for by her daughter, Wendy. Elizabeth truly enjoying visiting Florida and planned to move back to spend more time with her daughter Eileen.
Elizabeth Lily Casselring, age 93, of Monroe, passed away at home at 6:34am on Friday, July 20, 2018. Her family was at her side and she had been under the care of Heartland Hospice. In addition to her parents, spouse, and son, her passing was preceded by eight brothers and sisters: Lena Eurit-Babbs, Louise Cromey, Louis “Spuds” Zimmerman, Christian Zimmerman, Arletta Walker, Paul “Cobb” Zimmerman, Louis Zimmerman Jr., and Katherine Zimmerman.
To cherish her memory, she leaves three children: James “Jim” (Maureen) Casselring of Woodbury Heights, New Jersey, Eileen (Ray) Pollard of Fort, Meyers, Florida, and Wendy Cain of Monroe; her sister: Joann Johnson of Mason, Ohio; five grandchildren: Cheryl Garro (Gary Conradson), Jennifer (Douglas) Bender, Lisa Cain, Christie Casselring, and James (Courtney) Casselring; seven great grandchildren: Caleb, Calvin, Caitlin, Gary III, Kelsey, Levi, and Isaac.
Friends may gather from 3:00pm until 5:00pm on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will follow at 5:00pm with Pastor Joe Salazar and Fred Harshbarger of Christ Family Church officiating. Graveside services will take place at 10:00am on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Woodbury Memorial Park in Woodbury, New Jersey.
