Obituary of Jesse David Standifer Jr.

Jesse David Standifer Jr. was born on October 27, 1957 in Monroe, Michigan. He was one of six children born from the union of the late Jesse Standifer Sr. and the late Gertrude (Nelms) Standifer.   Jesse attended Monroe High School and graduated with the class of 1985.  

Following high school, Jesse, moved to Northern Michigan where he preferred the surroundings and pace of life.   He would take some college courses but spent fifteen years as a laborer in the construction industry.

Jesse loved being outdoors.   He appreciated taking long walks in the woods, hunting deer and other small game, and fishing.   Jesse was a quiet and private person.   By choice he had but a few friends, but he was loyal and pulled them each very close. He especially enjoyed spending time with his baby sister, “Punkey”. Together, they spent countless hours reminiscing and going fishing. Jesse enjoyed working work with his hands, and he often made leather purses and leather belts.   In his spare time he liked to play cards with solitaire being his favorite.

Jesse David Standifer Jr, age 61, of Monroe passed away at 2:55am on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at ProMedica Monroe Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center.   His passing was preceded by his parents.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his sisters: Sherry (Bob) Stork of Breckenridge, Rhonda Standifer of Landrum, South Carolina, Kim (Terry) Wurster of Hillsdale, Rebecca “Dolly” Price of Monroe, and Dawn Jennings of Monroe; he also leaves thirteen nieces and nephews.

Friends may gather from 10:00am until 12:00pm on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185.   A Celebration of His Life will follow at 12:00pm also at Merkle’s with Reverend Guy Erving pastor of First Christian Baptist Church in Newport officiating.   Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
