Obituary of Jacalyn Ann Nietubicz
Jacalyn Ann Berns was born in Monroe on July 21, 1952 the daughter of the late Chester and Gladys (Wells) Berns. Jacky was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church graduating from their grade school in 1966. She went on to attend Jefferson High School earning her diploma in 1970, and then earning her certificate from Carnegie Institute of Detroit in 1971.
Jacky began working as Laboratory Technician for Mercy Memorial Hospital in 1972. She retired in January of 2006 after thirty-five years of service. On May 7, 1988 she was joined in marriage to Robert “Bob” Nietubicz. The couple had a special relationship and were avid golfers.
A woman of great faith, Jacky was the proud godmother to Timothy, Marenna, Daniel, and Garrett Montague, Melanie Reaume, and Jacob Berns. She was very active at her church serving as an usher, cleaning the church, active with the Community of Needs Meal since 2005 and serving as coordinator since 2016. She had joined the funeral luncheon team in 2004 and the building committee in 2017. In 2017, Jacky was honored as Volunteer of the Year.
Jacky, age 65, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at home under the care of ProMedica Monroe Hospice with Bob at her side. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by siblings: Chester Jr., James, and Deborah Berns.
To cherish her memory she leaves her husband of thirty years: Bob; three step-children: Robert P. Nietubicz, Douglas A. Nietubicz, and Dawn M. (Ed) Parker; brothers: Timothy (Kathy) Berns and John (LeeAnn) Berns; sisters-in-law: Brenda Berns and Grace (Dennis) Yoas; brothers-in-law: Stanley (Patricia) Nietubicz and Benjamin (Bonnie) Nietubicz; maternal aunt: Mildred Anderson; maternal uncle: Homer Wells; two grandchildren: Robert Tyler Nietubicz and Cameron Jack Parker; the Jeanette Montague Family; many nieces and nephews; and all of her “peeps” from the Trinity Community of Needs Meal including her brother in Christ: Deacon John Krug.
Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Monday, June 18 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. She will lie-in-state from 10:00am until funeral services at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 323 Scott. Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth and Pastor Daniel Potts will co-officiate.
