Obituary of Blanche Jeanette Fountain

Blanche Jeanette Fountain was born in Detroit on September 25, 1931.   She was the daughter of the late Albert and Flora (Ross) Fountain.   In 1938, the family moved to Newport and Blanche would attend the special education school system.

In 2016, Blanche moved from Newport to Fountainview.   It was here that her personality blossomed.   She enjoyed making new friends, having her own space, being in charge of the remote, and decorating for all of the holidays.   In February of 2017, Blanche was baptized by Pastor Mark Witte.   For many years prior, she had enjoyed attending family functions and services at Grace Lutheran Church.  

Blanche enjoyed embroidery, often creating beautiful pillowcases for family members.   She was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and liked watching golf, especially Tiger Woods.   She enjoyed bingo, bowling, and watching her Soaps:  “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless”

Blanche, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Fountainview of Monroe.   She was surrounded by her loving family and Fountainview caregivers.   In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by her sister:  Anne Thorn and a brother-in-law:  Floyd Thorn; a niece:  Karon Thorn; and a nephew: Kenneth Thorn all of whom she had made her home with for many years; also three brothers: Gene Fountain, Rudy Fountain, and Bert Fountain; sister: Alice Coughlin; and niece:  Judy Roberts.

To cherish her memory, Blanche leaves beloved niece and guardian: Kathryn Patterson of Monroe; brother: Robert Fountain of Florida; sister-in-law:  Mary Fountain of Monroe; nephews:  John Fountain of Clinton and Thomas “Tommy” Tyler of Oregon; niece-in-law:  Shirley Thorn of Decatur, Alabama; three great nieces and nephews:  Adam Thorn of Monroe, Angela (Paul) Yentz of Monroe, and Kenneth “Kepp” (Connie) Thorn of Decatur; six great-great nieces and nephews:  Emily (Andrew) Mutter, Zechariah Yentz, Clayton Thorn, Ernest James Thorn, Erin Thorn all of Monroe, and Sophia Thorn of Decatur; two great-great-great nephews:  Bradley and Conrad Mutter; close family friend and mother to Clayton: Sabrina Phillips of Monroe; and many other nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.

Private services were held with burial at Roselawn in LaSalle with Pastor Mark Witte officiating.   Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe, 14567 South Dixie (734) 241-7070 was entrusted with her arrangements.
