Richard "Rich" Mayes II

Obituary of Richard "Rich" Mayes II

Richard Wayne Mayes II was born on September 26, 1966 in Monroe.   He was the son of Richard Wayne Mayes and Nancy Ann (Hales) Churchill.   Rich was a graduate of Monroe High School.

Richard took employment with the Ace Paper Company.   He had a strong work ethic and quickly earned the respect of his supervisors receiving several promotions in a short period of time.   For several years he worked as a truck driver delivering product.   He later was employed by Hog Brothers delivering roll-off dumpsters.

Rich married the love of his life the former Sylvia Lynn (Revard) Cardella on April 13, 1994.   Even after a medical retirement he looked after the needs of his wife as a caregiver.   He was also the family chef since he loved to cook.   His delicious, homemade apple pie, mostaccioli, and meatballs to name a few, were diner’s delights.

Rich was an all-around good guy.  He was talented with his hands and generous with his time.   He had the gift of gab, and he loved to converse with anyone willing to listen.   Rich liked to share his knowledge with others.   Although, not formally trained he knew his way around electricity and as a skilled woodworker, he often made items that Sylvia drew up, including a headboard, bookcases, and birdhouses.   Rich took great pride in his home often completing DIY projects and working in his yard.   He turned his love of the outdoors into a business as the owner and operator of Silver Maintenance, providing customers with lawn and yard maintenance.

Rich Mayes, age 51, of Monroe passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, April 28, 2018.
