Obituary of Jakob Robert-Lee Cooper
Jakob Robert-Lee Cooper was born on May 13, 2003 in Toledo, Ohio. He was the son of Robert Cooper and Tamara (Thompson) Cooper. Born with a rare genetic disease known as CDKL5 (Cyclin-Dependent Kinase Like 5) with Mitochondrial Disfunction, Jakob, had many struggles throughout life. At the age of 2, Jakob began attending school through the Monroe County Intermediate School District.
For the past four years Jakob participated with the Special Olympics. He had also enjoyed bowling, listening to his Kindle Fire, and visiting the Toledo Zoo. He joined his family in rooting for the hometown team, The Detroit Tigers.
Although, he was unable to speak, Jakob, had his own way of communicating and could be quite feisty at times. He always disliked his baths and often removed his oxygen tubing to set off his alarms. At those difficult times when his personality shown through, his loved ones commented, “That’s Jakob”. He was quite aware of his surroundings and very fond of his mother, since his eyes always lit up when she entered the room.
The family attended St. Joseph Parish in Monroe prior to its closing.
