Obituary of John Hamilton Bert

John Hamilton Bert was born on March 19, 1943 in Monroe. He was 1 of 6 children born from the union of the late Leslie Bert and the late Ruth (Fish) Bert. He received his education at Monroe High School and proudly served our country in the Navy until he was honorably discharged. John married the love of his life, Anita Farner and from this union came the birth of their three children. He worked hard throughout his life supporting his family as an upholsterer for La-Z-Boy and worked at Friendly Ford until he retired.

John loved his Harley and enjoyed taking trips across the United States and has visited every state excluding Alaska and Hawaii. He had a passion for speed and enjoyed taking his dune buggy to Silver Lake Sand Dunes to have fun in the sand. He enjoyed hunting, camping and sitting around the bon-fire. He was a major history buff and could talk for hours telling stories. He loved animals, going to the movies and listening to music, including his favorite: Elton John. He found love again with Linn Maloney and was her beloved companion for the past 12 years.

Above all, he loved his family. He was a great father, grandfather, brother and friend. He had a kind heart and was a loving gentle man.

John Bert, age 74, of Trenton, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. His passing is preceded by his wife: Anita Bert; his siblings William and Floyd Bert; and his parents.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his children: Tammy (Lewis) Buko, Teri (Alex) Serrano and John Bert; his three brothers: Norman (the late Beverly), Daniel (the late Patricia) and Dennis (Janice) Bert; his grandchildren: Adrian Smith, Ian Smith, Richard Jurich and Anita Jurich; his great grandchildren: Ryleigh, Rowan and Jaxson; and extended family members and friends.

He is also survived by his loving friend and companion: Linn Maloney and her family.

Friends may gather on Monday, March 12, from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will be held on Tuesday, March 13, also at Merkle’s at 11:00am officiated by Father Steven Kelly from St. Johns Episcopal Church. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park following the service. Memorial contributions can be made to: Monroe Human Society.
