Sandra Chapman Habdas posted a condolence

When my mother, Charlotte Lorraine Chapman, and my father divorced, my mom was left to raise my two younger brothers, Syd and Allen. She desperately needed a good job. She happened to mention this to Sis. Wilburn. Sis. Wilburn in turn talked to Bro. Wilburn. Bro. Wilburn got my mom an application to work at General Motors Diesel, where I believe he was a superintendent. That job was an answer to prayer and gave my mom the money and job security she so needed. She worked there for 16 years and retired with a pension and medical benefits. All thanks to the Lord and Bro. Wilburn. My condolences to Debra and your family.

Bro. and Sis. Wilburn were examples of what a Christian should be. They didn't say look what I did, they just did what was needed for the church, their friends, church members. In November 1971 my dad died. The only income for our family was what I earned. Bro. and Sis. Wilburn brought a large garbage can filled with food items, ham, turkey and a check. They never advertised to anyone that they did these kinds of deeds for those who were in need. There were others who turned our names into Goodfellows, a Lutheran Church, and another group. The food items blessed us for several months. We had always been taught by our mom to do good for others. In 1975 Jim and I had bought our first home. There was an electrical problem and Jim called Bro. Wilburn to ask for advice. Bro. Wilburn came to our home with the items Jim would need to fix the problem, helped Jim, actually Jim assisted Bro. Wilburn. He would not let Jim pay for the electrical items. The Wilburns were the perfect example for us to follow. And we have. We've talked with our children, told them we should do good for one another because it's the right thing to do, not because we need our backs padded. Bro. and Sis. Wilburn loved from the depths of their heart and raised their daughter to do good, to know how to take care of herself, to be able to stand on he own. Debra brought great joy to their lives and they to hers and to the grandchildren. The world feels a little empty now since we've lost another good soul, but they'll have their rewards, peace and joy with their heavenly home. I loved them, remember them with great affection, and will tell others of their example so that legacy of giving, helping, loving will continue.
