Obituary of Larry Wayne Gekle
Larry Wayne Gekle was born on March 5, 1958 in Monroe, Michigan. He was the son of the late Carl J. Gekle and the late Trula (Shepherd) Gekle. He grew up in a busy home with six other siblings attending Airport Community Schools.
Although, Larry did not have much formal education he was blessed with common sense and a caregiver’s heart. He was talented when working with electricity. Larry was loving and caring and often referred to as just a big teddy bear. He was thoughtful and generous often carrying flashlights in his pocket to share with his family and even total strangers.
Larry loved his God, prayed frequently, and wasn’t afraid to share about God with those around him. He liked to give Bibles away, and his favorite quote was “Bless oh Lord this house we pray, keep it safe by night and day”.
Larry was a devout fan of the King, Elvis Presley. He loved to collect Elvis memorable. He also had a fascination with Lisa Marie Presley, telling his family that the two were in a relationship and that he just needed a ride to Graceland. As a young man he started a fascination with keys, this continued throughout his life, as he acquired a substantial collection.
Larry Wayne Gekle, age 59, of Monroe passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at his home. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by a brother: Joe Gekle; a half-brother: Carl Gekle; and a nephew: Jason Gekle.
To cherish his memory, Larry leaves three sisters: Laura (John) Stone of Monroe, Glenda (Joe) Bourbina of Monroe, and Carla Gekle of Monroe; one brother: John (Denise) Gekle of Adrian; twelve nieces and nephews: Rachel Stone (Frank Reidy), Bonnie (Kevin) Vining, John Stone, Jody Ann Motylinski (Rick Peer), Tina (Troy) Burlen, Josh Gekle, A.J. Abbott, Jerry (Shannon) Fowler, Starlena (John) Scafasci, Amber (Dan) Solan, Thomas Grove Jr., and Carl Grove; as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews.
