Obituary of Megan Elizabeth Hicks
Megan Elizabeth Hicks was born in Monroe, Michigan on January 16, 1971. She was the daughter of the late Marvin Hicks Sr. and Donna (Swartz) Hicks. Megan attended Monroe Schools and graduated with the Class of 1989.
Megan was friendly and outgoing. She enjoyed conversing with others and making people smile. For several years she was employed as a greeter at Meijer in Monroe, and while living in Greensboro, North Carolina she had worked in the same capacity for Harris-Teeter. Megan also volunteered at Mercy Memorial for over a year.
Megan was well-known in her neighborhood often perusing the community. She enjoyed visiting the Hampton Plaza stores and the Coney Island Restaurant. Being so well-known the neighbors often referred to her mother Donna as just: “Megan’s Mom”.
In her spare time, Megan liked to watch television. She was an avid University of Michigan Wolverine fan. She was also a diehard supporter of her favorite NASCAR driver, Geoff Bodine. Megan seemed to be fearless. She was even willing to go head to head with her friend, local champ, Bronco McKart in a boxing match.
Recently, Megan had begun crocheting and her work would become beautiful blankets.
Megan Elizabeth Hicks, age 46, of Monroe passed away at 7:22pm on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She had been seriously ill for the past month. In addition to her father her passing was preceded by a brother: William Hicks.
To cherish her memory, Megan leaves her beloved mother: Donna Hicks of Monroe; a brother: Marvin (Dawn) Hicks Jr. of Monroe; a sister: Paula (Doug) Fisk of Dundee; eight nieces and nephews: Rachel (Thomas) Delago, Cora Lee Pasko, Ashley Fisk, Kirsten Fisk, Lucas Hicks, Shawn Hicks, Victoria Fisk, Elizabeth Hicks; and many extended family members and friends.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will follow at 7:00pm with Pastor Katie Waggoner of First United Methodist Church officiating. A private burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle on Friday.
