Obituary of James Frank Toye
James Frank Toye was born on February 1, 1948 in Mt. Clemons, Michigan. He was one of four children born from the late Denis Toye and the late Marion (Rector) Toye. At age 19, he enlisted in the United States Air Force to serve our country and was honorably discharged in 1967.
Jim married the love of his life, Elizabeth Younglove April 11, 1986 in Toledo and a year later in 1987 at St. Charles Catholic Church. To support his family, he worked many jobs making him an entrepreneur of many trades.
He was active in the community and was proud to belong to the American Legion Post 40 serving as a District Chaplain, VP of the Monroe Moose Lodge 884, served on the Board of Directors for St. Charles Parish Credit Union, a member of the DAV and 40-8. He also volunteered with the American Red Cross and Special Olympics whenever he could.
Jim loved the outdoors and enjoyed time spent camping, fishing and hunting. He loved to golf, bowl on leagues at Nortel Lanes and gamble at the casino. He loved to travel and went many places throughout his life.
Above all, he was a family man and his grandchildren were his “pride and joy”. Jim had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He was loved and will be missed by many.
James Frank Toye, age 69, of Monroe, Michigan, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 6:48 am at the VA Ann Arbor Health Care System. He is preceded in death by his brother Denis Jr., his sister Patricia Bayn and his parents.
To cherish his memory, he leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Toye of 31 years; his children: Deborah (Bryan) Pillarelli and Lori (Kevin) Mason; his grandchildren: Bradley Younglove, Kristyn (Steven) Sprinkles, Sidney and Duane Mason & Autumn, Jacob and Joseph Pillarelli, his sister Mary Quirie and many extended family members and friends.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. Jim will lie in state from 10:00am until the Mass of Resurrection at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 8109 Swan Creek Road in Newport with Father Anthony Camilleri officiating.
